Course ID

Course Description

Building on the foundational concepts of SURG 101, this course is a practical, hands-on seminar designed to prepare second-year students for their professional journey. The focus shifts from the \"why\" of the industry to the \"how\" of building a successful career within it. This course is the primary vehicle for preparing students for the Medical Device Development & Application major's Experiential Learning Portfolio. Students will develop the essential \"soft skills\" required for securing competitive internships and co-ops, including resume and cover letter writing, building a professional online presence, and mastering interview techniques. Through a series of guest lectures from mid-career professionals, students will gain a granular understanding of the day-to-day realities of key MDDA career paths, such as Regulatory Affairs Specialist, Quality Assurance Engineer, and Product Manager. The course culminates in a final project where each student develops a detailed, personalized \"Internship Work Plan,\" a critical document required for all credit-bearing experiential learning at the university.
