The doctoral program in American Indian Studies, the first program of its kind in the U.S., will prepare you to assume leadership and policymaking roles in higher education or tribal communities, or at the state or national level. You will be trained to conduct advanced and applied scholarly research from a cross-cultural perspective and develop theoretical and innovative theories, methodologies and research tools useful to sovereign tribes. You will gain an understanding of Native people from an Indigenous perspective and the ability to recognize commonalities and diversity of American Indian and Indigenous communities. You will also build relationships with and contribute to these communities.
