Doctor of Philosophy

The Ph.D. program in Computer Science pairs advanced coursework with substantive research experience to prepare you for positions in the design and development of computer systems, with applications to business, industry and academic computing research. Within the department - which has been offering master's and doctoral degrees since 1971 - areas of interest include algorithms; artificial intelligence; programming languages and compilers; security; systems; and visualization and graphics. In addition to offering faculty instruction and real-world research, the doctoral program emphasizes the creation of original work by students to present at conferences or publish in peer-reviewed journals.
