Program Description

The Design for Health Innovation Graduate Certificate, offered by the College of Health Sciences, equips students and working professionals with essential skills in applied design and innovation for the health sector. This flexible 9-unit program can stand alone or complement other graduate studies, offering elective choices to focus on specific design challenges and solutions. Using a project-based approach, this experiential learning graduate certificate enables students to hone their interdisciplinary design and problem-solving skills using open-ended, student-identified topics in health, leading to the development of sustainable, equitable, and transformative solutions in areas such as patient experience and service design, medical device development, community health interventions, health communications and education, and health policy and systems design, among others.

Learning Outcomes

- Apply design methodologies to identify an authentic need or opportunity in the health sector and design an innovative solution through the synthesis of multiple perspectives.
- Generate and refine ideas into practical prototypes or proofs of concept, coupled with effective project management and execution strategies.
