Program Description

If you are a practicing paramedic seeking your four-year degree consider the Emergency Medical Services program to bolster your training. The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the University of Arizona's College of Medicine is designed for certified paramedics who are practicing at the state or national level. Students majoring in EMS will gain advanced training in leadership and critical care for both adult and pediatric patients from courses taught by experienced emergency medicine and EMS physicians. They'll expand their knowledge in EMS systems, disaster response, special operations, EMS medical and legal concerns, and EMS care in rural, wilderness and other limited-resource settings.

The online program is designed to accommodate working paramedics and learners who are outside of Arizona or deployed. Online students must hold a current national or state certification as a Paramedic to declare the major. Paramedic units may be transferred from accredited programs. For those students without transcripts, NREMT certification will be recognized as outlined in the Prior Learning Policy on the Registrar's website; an associate degree from community college is not required.

Main Campus students may declare the major at any time. NREMT certification is required for EMT level students to be considered for the paramedic training program. Completion of the UA paramedic training program is required for graduation with the BS in EMS, if not already a certified paramedic.
