Program Description
While technology has the potential to greatly advance human rights, it's also being used to harass, suppress, disrupt and surveil individuals and groups. This graduate certificate program analyzes this confluence of human rights and information and communication technologies. You will explore such critical issues as privacy, artificial intelligence, misinformation, data rights, e-learning, surveillance, encryption and more, while also studying technologies like big databases, virtual reality, blockchain and crowdsourcing of human rights data. Complementing the classroom learning is an experiential course called Human Rights and Technology, a student project that aims to bring about important insights relevant to the field.
