MCB 585 Multidisciplinary Approaches to Solving Biological Problems, 4 units, minimum grade required: B
MCB 695E Science, Society and Ethics, 1 unit, minimum grade required: P
One (any) Elective Course, 3-4 units, minimum grade required: B

Seminar and journal club course (any) required every semester until graduation (minimum of 16 units total).

MCB 920 Dissertation, 18 units

Computational track requires two additional courses from the following: 
MCB 580 Introduction to Systems Biology, 3 units, minimum grade required: B
MCB 516A Statistical Bioinformatics and Genomic Analysis, 3 units, minimum grade required: B
PSIO 572 Quantitative Modeling of Biological Systems, 3 units, minimum grade required: B

Minor: minimum of 9 units. A minor in MCB is allowed.

Minimum GPA in core coursework: 3.0

Completion requirement

Any course is allowed. Please consult with your advisor and/or committee for an appropriate course, if not completed in the first year of ABBS. The program recommends the following courses:

MCB 580 Introduction to Systems Biology, 3 units, minimum grade required: B
MCB 516A Statistical Bioinformatics and Genomic Analysis, 3 units, minimum grade required: B
BIOC 565 Proteins and Enzymes, 3 units, minimum grade required: B
BIOC 568 Nucleic Acids, Metabolism, and Signaling, 4 units, minimum grade required: B 
BIOC 585A and 595B Biological Structure I and II, 2 units each, minimum grade required: B
ECOL 553 Functional and Evolutionary Genomics, 4 units, minimum grade required: B
PHYS 531 Molecular Biophysics, 3 units, minimum grade required: B

Completion requirement

Must present research or journal club once each year until graduation.

TA MCB undergraduate course twice (typically during 2nd and 3rd year).

A minor in MCB requires three MCB courses (or courses cross-listed in MCB) and must include TWO of the following:

MCB 580, Introduction to Systems Biology, 3 units, minimum grade required: B

A primary MCB faculty member must serve on comprehensive examination committee.
