The Ph.D. program in Microbiology gives you the opportunity to perform cutting-edge research and prepares you for rewarding careers in areas such as academia, public health, government and regulatory agencies. As a Ph.D. student, you will enjoy flexibility in planning your program of study, which is tailored to your individual research interests and career goals. The Ph.D. degree requires a minimal number of formal graduate courses; the passing of traditional comprehensive written and oral exams; and the completion of a formal research project and dissertation defense. The program does not require the prior completion of a master's degree.
